Ultherapy Prime What are the differences compared to the original Ultherapy device?
2025-04-30
Many people undergo dermatology laser lifting procedures to achieve smooth, firm, and youthful-looking skin. Among them, Ultherapy lifting has long been a popular device, helping improve skin elasticity and reduce wrinkles through a non-invasive method.
While the original Ultherapy has been widely used for a long time, an upgraded version called “Ultherapy Prime” has recently been introduced and is gaining attention. It was developed for patients who want a more convenient, precise, and less burdensome treatment experience.
Both Ultherapy and Ultherapy Prime use high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) energy to improve skin elasticity. The HIFU energy is delivered to the dermal and SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layers, creating thermal coagulation points that contract tissue and stimulate new collagen production, thereby tightening the SMAS layer.
Ultherapy Prime features significantly improved real-time ultrasound imaging and display technology, allowing for more precise procedures. With higher ultrasound resolution, it enables accurate targeting and more customized treatments for each individual.
While the original device allowed visualization up to a depth of 4.5 mm, Ultherapy Prime is upgraded to allow ultrasound imaging at depths of up to 8 mm. This makes it more suitable even for patients with very thin or thick skin, or those with more advanced aging who previously may not have expected strong results.
With this improved precision in energy delivery and targeting accuracy, the overall effectiveness of Ultherapy lifting has been enhanced. The user interface is also simpler, and patients can directly observe changes before and after treatment, leading to higher satisfaction.
Director Han Jong-sun of DA Plastic Surgery Clinic stated, “Ultherapy Prime uses the same HIFU energy as the original Ultherapy and allows customized lifting using various tips for each patient’s skin condition. However, with upgraded ultrasound imaging resolution, it is now possible to observe deeper skin structures more precisely. That said, treatment should be performed at clinics with sufficient experience handling both the original Ultherapy and the upgraded Ultherapy Prime, and where practitioners fully understand anatomical structures to ensure customized lifting.”
